This Art of Nature 2024 sneak peek is from "Metamorph" by Becca Rodriguez (@armarierodriguez). It can be found near the Field Research Center and @amphibianfoundation mesocosms off Land O Lakes.

"Metamorph is a tabletop (or forest floor) life cycle role playing game, made to complete the journey from egg to fully metamorphosed frog. Players will encounter prompts via the simple system of rolling dice and landing on tile symbols. This game is planted here to encourage thoughtful participation in our evolutionary future while recognizing human impact that often goes unseen."

One month ago, our Director of Conservation & Oper

One month ago, our Director of Conservation & Operations planted Fringed campion (Silene polypetala) near the Field Research Center, and we have our first bloom!

This Georgia-native plant is endangered, due to loss and degradation of suitable habitat. We're excited to continue monitoring these plantings and seeing many more blooms to come.

This Art of Nature 2024 sneak peek is from Waterfa

This Art of Nature 2024 sneak peek is from Waterfall Communities. It can be found on the Rickenbacker Drive bridge at the northern tip of the Preserve.

"Waterfall Communities is a waterfall installation collaboratively comprised of Randy Taylor, Wes Cribb, Nicole Haysler, and Sylvia Cross. It is inspired by the Art on the Hudson waterfalls of Olafur Eliason and Frank Gehry’s Falling Water. We created a waterfall on the Rickenbacker Side Bridge using solar power and a water submersible battery to power the pump and lights projected onto the falls.
We sketched the flora and fauna of the preserves communities to be projected as well."

As the temps continue to warm, keep your eyes peel

As the temps continue to warm, keep your eyes peeled for green anoles (Anolis carolinensis) around the Preserve! These common lizards are generally arboreal - but they love to bask in any sunny spot - and are active by day, snacking on insects and chasing off rival anoles. They aren't chameleons, but do change colors, and the males flash a bright pink dewlap, or throat flap.

This Art of Nature 2024 sneak peek is from "Sympoiesis" by Shana L. Robbins (@interspecieslover). It can be found in the ravine between Rickenbacker Drive and the Woodland Loop Trail.

"Sympoiesis was assembled with painted rocks from Nancy Creek, local flora, moss, fallen tree limbs, and other elements. Through a range of mediums and techniques including performance art, earthworks, and paintings, Shana strives to spark moments of awe, reflection, and inspiration, nurturing an enfleshed sense of kinship and co-creativity with the more-than-human world."
