SCHOOL BREAK CAMPS @ BHNP
Our School Break Camps are a fantastic opportunity to get out of the classroom and embark on adventures in nature. Come explore our 30-acre green space and its four unique ecosystems with us. Skip rocks, catch tadpoles and splash around in Nancy Creek. Whether it’s building forts, making nature art, or playing in the mud, your camper is sure to enjoy their time making new discoveries at Blue Heron.
Our programs are focused on positive, hands-on experiences in nature. Our educators are focused on providing content based on your campers’ interests, so every visit to our Break Camp is a unique experience. Come and uncover some of nature’s wonders with us!

WHAT SETS BLUE HERON CAMP APART
We are inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach— an educational philosophy that views children as the initiators of the learning process. The Reggio approach is place-based and child-led; every day is based on how your child wants to discover the fascinating world of nature.
We value small groups and hands-on learning. At Blue Heron Day Camps, your child will spend most of their time outside learning from nature. Your children learn to interact safely with nature; turning over rocks and logs, climbing downed trees, skipping rocks in the creek, and catching butterflies and insects in nets.
- Our curriculum is emergent – Blue Heron educators head into a week of camp with numerous ideas and materials for students to explore. Through careful observation and communication, instructors collaborate with your child to guide the day’s activities.
- We recognize the Hundred Languages of Children- The Reggio approach holds that children are natural communicators and can express themselves in many different ways. We encourage children to express their interests through words, drawing, sculpting, building, music, movement, and more.
- Our environment is the third teacher- The set-up of Reggio classrooms is an important part of inviting children to explore and learn. In addition to the thoughtful set-up of our indoor spaces, Blue Heron has a 30-acre greenspace that invites children to discover nature in a hands-on, meaningful way.
