Spread Your Wings at Blue Heron Nature Preserve
Nestled in Atlanta’s North Buckhead neighborhood, Blue Heron Nature Preserve is home to the 3-mile Blueway Trail which allows visitors to experience 30 acres of woodlands, wetlands, riparian areas and meadows – all without leaving the city.
FUTURE PLANS FOR THE BLUE HERON
As part of our rolling 20 Year Vision Plan, we are working on three upcoming projects to ensure we are constantly improving the personal experience with nature for all our visitors.
Roswell Rd Entrance
With the help of Park Pride and our valued donors, we are excited to share our plans to create a new gateway to the preserve at Roswell Road. A large sign with the Blue Heron name and logo will showcase the Preserve to the City and provide clear direction for guests. The sign will be complemented by beautiful meadow planting of low growing native Piedmont plants. This landscape will educate the community about the great native plants that they can use at home.
Building Entrance
We are delighted to share a vision for a new entrance to the building that will create a more welcoming and accessible entrance, provide a gathering/seating area, and open access to a public bathroom. These plans will be advanced in partnership with the City of Atlanta and donors to transform how visitors access the building.
Back Deck
Working with the City of Atlanta and our valued donors we are excited to share plans for a new back deck! This gathering space will provide opportunities for visitors to experience and learn about the adjacent wetland area. A seating area will allow space for classes and other groups to gather, and a large open deck area becomes a flexible venue for the community to rent for events. A winding path down from Rickenbacker Drive will provide access to the deck and connect the building with the Preserve’s trail network.
