SCOUT PROGRAMS
We offer both Girl Scout and Boy Scout programs for all ages and troops.
We also have project needs that can be fulfilled by aspiring Eagle Scouts.
Badge Programs
Badge programs are designed to meet most or all the requirements of your badge, pin, loop and other awards related to the outdoors and the environment.
$12 per child, minimum $90 /2 hour program
Nature Hikes
Enjoy a guided nature hike around the Preserve! Explore the woods, creek, and meadows. Learn to identify the native plants and animals that inhabit the Preserve.
$10 per child, minimum $75 /1 hr
Eagle Scouts
Blue Heron Nature Preserve has a number of opportunities to develop and complete Eagle Scout projects at the preserve.
We also offer Merit Badge workshops throughout the year to help scouts on their journey to Eagle Scout.

Eagle Scout Project Guidelines
- The scout should submit their project proposal here for feasibility, feedback, and acceptance.
- Once the project idea is approved, the scout will present a draft proposal to the Director of Operations before taking it through the scout approval process. Email a description of the work scope and proposed timeline. Once approved by Blue Heron staff, projects may begin with the scout approval process.
- The scout will schedule any necessary appointments (only between 9am – 5pm) with our Blue Heron leaders. Once approved, work on the project may take place after office hours or on weekends.
Post-approval Requirements:
- The scout must commit to a project start date.
- If the start date is not honored, then the project will be available for another scout to pursue.
- The scout must provide before and after photos.
- The scout is responsible for obtaining all materials for the project.
What are some examples of Girl Scout Programs?
Programs for Brownies include Letterboxing, Insects, Adventure Hiking and Sensory Exploration.
Programs for Juniors include Gardening Goodness, Powerful Flowers, Outdoor Artists and Animal Habitats.

When do programs occur?
Programs run any day or early evening throughout the year. Schedule by emailing us: educationprograms@bhnp.org.
Can I schedule two or more programs in a single day?
Yes! We do require a 30 minute in between programs.
Will my program include time for our troop meeting?
No, we do not charge you to have your meeting during the program. You are welcome to arrive early or stay after and enjoy an outdoor meeting in the Preserve.
Can parents and siblings attend the program?
Yes! Siblings may attend the program, but will be charged the same rate as the scouts. Scout leaders and up to 2 chaperones for every 10 children are free. If additional adults wish to join the program, they will be charged $5.00 each.
Are adult leaders required to stay with the group?
Yes. We must have one adult chaperone for every 7 children.
