Spending time in nature can sharpen your focus and lift your mood—and birdwatching offers a perfect way to slow down and tune in. This gentle morning walk through the trails of Blue Heron will help you notice more of the life around you, guided by two experienced Master Birders.

Mamie Kerr and Mike Blakeney, graduates of the Birds Georgia Master Birder Program, will lead the way as we explore the Preserve’s woodlands and wetlands in search of feathered visitors. Mamie is also the owner of Wild Birds Unlimited of Atlanta, our wonderful neighbor just up the road, where backyard birders can find expert guidance and high-quality bird feeding supplies.

Along the walk, you’ll learn how to identify local birds by sight and sound, gain insight into their behavior and migration patterns, and discover how birds reflect the health of our shared environment.

This walk is a relaxed, beginner-friendly experience for anyone curious about birds or seeking a quiet, meaningful way to connect with the outdoors. Please bring binoculars if you have them, and dress for walking on natural trails. We will meet at the Blue Heron main building before heading out together.

This event is part of our annual August Health & Wellness Month—a series of free programs that invite you to explore the many ways nature supports our well-being. Join us each Saturday in August to connect with the outdoors and discover new paths to wellness.

Special thanks to our sponsor, Northside Hospital, for making these events possible and free to the public.
