Meet the Counselors
Mac Baker
Sarah McKinnon, formally known as Mac ‘n Cheese, has been an educator and camp counselor for Blue Heron Nature Preserve since the summer of 2022.
Their lifelong love for nature playing in the north Georgia woods grew into a passion for outdoor sports such as backpacking, kayaking, and rock climbing as a student of the Outdoor Academy in North Carolina.
In their free time you can find them playing in the creek, hunting for bugs, doing crafts, or playing with their two cats Goose and Nellie.
Dusk Grams
Hey, I’m Dusk! I’ve been an Environmental Educator with Blue Heron for the past two years, and I’m excited to work another summer at camp. I love being outdoors, bird watching, and playing in the creek. Can’t wait to meet you!
Kym Barrett
My name is Kym Barrett and I am so excited for this summer! I am currently a special education kindergarten teacher. I love to be outside and I am learning more about gardening every day.
Christina Bidot
Hi! I‘m Christina, and I am so excited to be a summer counselor! I have a deep passion for human biology, and I am currently a student at Chattahoochee Tech majoring in Radiography soon to be an X-ray Technician. In my free time I love to be outdoors connecting with nature by running and hiking, especially with my dog. I can’t wait to have a great summer and meet everyone!
Caroline Hall
Hi! My name is Caroline Hall. I am a 23 year-old Aftercare Counselor/Assistant Teacher at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic School, as well as a part-time virtual student at GSU. I originally went to Ole Miss- HOTTY TODDY!!! And I am a member of Pi Beta Phi MS Beta — wings up! I love animals, and I have four of my own— 3 cats & a puppy— who are the lights of my life. I’m also very passionate about music, teaching, traveling, and helping people.
Claire McGovern
My name is Claire and I am a rising sophomore at Emory studying Biology with a minor in Anthropology. I am from North Carolina, and I love hiking, being outdoors, and trying new restaurants throughout the Southeast. I have also ridden horses my whole life! I am so excited for camp this summer!
Sarah Winer
My name is Sarah and I’m so excited to be spending the summer at Blue Heron! During the school year I study psychology and human development at UGA, but I spend most of my time by the lake on campus. I can’t wait to share my love for the outdoors and create lasting memories with each and every one of you at camp this summer!
Samuel Bilyashevych
My name is Samuel Bilyashevych, I have been working with kids of all ages for 6 years. I have an open mind, and I love making sure kids are safe and having a good time. I am CPR certified, and have been for 6 years. I am the oldest of 4 siblings, and I love the outdoors. I will make sure your kids have an amazing time at camp.
Kinzy Sjogren
Hi! My name is Kinzy Sjogren and I am a local teacher turned nature camp counselor for the summer! I have worked at nature camps since I was in college at GCSU studying Elementary Education. I love spending time with family and friends outdoors or at a great restaurant with yummy food. I’m very excited to get started and hopefully meet you soon!
Stitch Gulson
Hello! I‘m Stitch and I’ve been working with Blue Heron for the past four years, with summer 2025 being my 5th summer! I started here originally as a camper very young, and returned years later to be a CIT. After three years of CIT volunteer work, I joined the Blue Heron staff as a camp counselor! I can’t wait to see all the returning campers this year and meet everybody joining us for the first time, see you this summer!
