CALLING ALL ARTISTS: Blue Heron Nature Preserve se CALLING ALL ARTISTS: Blue Heron Nature Preserve seeks proposals for works by contemporary artists for the Nesting: Art of Nature 2023 outdoor exhibition. Blue Heron 2023 Artist-in-Residence Caleb Brown (@twoflats) will curate this year’s ninth annual exhibition, held outdoors at a 30-acre environmentally wondrous greenspace.

Complete your submission here:
https://bhnp.org/arts/art-of-nature/art-of-nature-submissions/

Nesting: Art of Nature 2023 is an outdoor exhibition that challenges artists to use nature's elements to expand metaphorically on the Great Blue Heron’s habitat and sensibility. This unique collaboration displays artworks reflecting personal, formative memories related to nature, the land, and home.

Note: Selected artists will receive an $800 stipend to execute the artwork.

Projects must be durable outdoor pieces installed within the Preserve. Submissions are due on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at 11:59 pm EST. Decisions will be announced by March 9.
Loblolly pine! You might be familiar with this typ Loblolly pine! You might be familiar with this type of pine since it is Georgia's most common pine species. It definitely likes the Preserve. While they often grow in low, wet spaces, Loblolly pines aren't limited to that specific habitat --- they like to grow in Georgia's acidic clay soils. They can reach 98-115 feet at full height, making them the largest of the southern pines! 🍃

Black-eyed Susans! They're such a delightful littl Black-eyed Susans! They're such a delightful little native species we see at the Preserve. Several species are common in Georgia, specifically Rudbeckia laciniata, Rudbeckia fulgida, and Rudbeckia hirta. These flowers resemble our friend from last week - the purple coneflower - but they have a different genus. You might be able to spot black-eyed susans by their cheery yellow colors.
