Explore the Preserve with a Blue Heron naturalist in hunt of some of the amazing rocks of the Georgia Piedmont. Make a rock collection, use rock hammers to see what’s hidden inside, and get a close up look under a microscope. Learn some of the techniques used by geologist to help identify what we found!

This program will focus on one of the Blue Heron Citizen Science projects. The Caterpillars Count project is all about counting and identifying the various Arthropod species (a fancy name for bugs, insects, and caterpillars) that birds eat.

When we learn what kind of bugs are available to the birds, and at what time of year we see them, then we can predict when migrating birds might be coming through! Come collect data like a real scientist and learn how you can participate in this project at home.
