Explore & Discover
Intertwine science and nature through hands-on experience.
Enhance classroom education by exploring the Preserve with Environmental Educators.
Program topics for middle schoolers:
- Earth Science -
Collect rocks along the trails and creek. Learn how rocks change in different environments, and sort your discoveries based on color, texture and hardness.
A walk in Nancy Creek is the perfect way to learn about rocks, soils, and fossils! We'll seek out information about each as we enjoy the water and sand.
Uncover the properties of different soils by getting dirty and digging in various habitats. Children will collect soil types to observe, describe and compare.
- Life Science -
Beavers in their Wetlands
Beavers are a keystone species and essential to habitat restoration. Explore our Beaver Dam Analogs as we examine how beavers benefit our urban ecosystem.
Habitats of the Georgia Piedmont
Explore the plants and animals that adapt and thrive in one of the Preserve habitats: Woodland, Riparian, Meadow, or Wetland. We’ll learn in one of our Field Education Centers.
Go on a mushroom hunt with us and learn about decomposers! Children collect natural items to create the ideal environment for mushrooms.
