Educational Camps and Nature Weeks

Summer Camp and Nature Weeks 2017

Welcome to Summer At Blue Heron Nature PrEserve

About our Camps:
Our camps value small group experiences, hands-on exploratory learning, and child-led learning. Facilitated by experienced environmental educators, campers discover how to interact positively with the world around them. Every week we have a different theme, from crawly critters to outdoor art! Our award-winning artists offer creative art camps for various ages, and our partnership with the Amphibian Foundation is making it possible to offer Critter Camp for the first time at Blue Heron this summer! We’ll be meeting some of the amazing animals that call Blue Heron home, and some that have traveled a long way to be here. See below for details and pricing.

Summer 2017 offers 11 weeks of Great Blue Heron Camp to choose from! Each week, we explore a nature related theme. Children are outside for the majority of the camp, and encouraged to get wet and muddy, turn over rocks and logs, climb trees, and play with sticks. Our professional naturalists and environmental educators facilitate these experiences, and help children discover natural interactions with the outdoors. Christy Knight's Paint Box Mystery Camp is offered select weeks to full-day campers or campers may join Paint Box Mystery camp for just the afternoon (1 pm - 4 pm), information below.

  • Outdoor Detectives, Part II:  August 7th - 11th (FULL)
Calling all nature sleuths! We will look under rocks and logs for insects, spy through binoculars for birds, and seek out evidence of other critters all through the woods.

Trailblazers (Ages 8 - 13)

We want camp to be an experience that can grow with our campers. As children get older, they need to expand their world and their knowledge of place. Our Trailblazers camp provides older children the opportunity to do this. We will go beyond the traditional camp borders and explore the expansive 30-acres of Blue Heron during this camp. Campers will learn outdoor survival skills, and increase their knowledge of urban ecology through participating in Citizen Science efforts. They will help be a part of the growth of Blue Heron by assisting with the building of new trails, trail crossings, outdoor education centers, and more. Our Trailblazers camp will follow the same themes as our Great Blue Heron Camp, but with added challenges that are appropriate for older children.

Full-day: $350/week. Campers have the option of attending Christy Knight's Paint Box Mystery Art Camp during selected weeks of the summer. Please select the Paint Box Mystery addition when registering. More information below.
