Jiha Moon (Artist statement)
“'To be in leaf' is inspired by the nature in the Blue Heron Nature preserve and also around my neighborhood in the Chamblee/ Doraville area this summer.

During my residency I spent my summer time going around these areas, closely looking to collect mundane yet exciting elements to add another layer to my usual subjects. For example, I want to combine kudzu and fortune cookie, big magnolia leaves and masks, tree bark from BHNP and the Blue Willow pattern that I often use in my work.

This unexpected collaboration between nature and cultural fusion (my ongoing subject) creates even more odd layers for this special project exhibition. I would like to create tension between nature and culture, functional and nonfunctional ceramic objects on my table installation along with painting on photographs and the special edition, letterpressed prints that were made for this exhibition."
