Blueway Trail Initiative
Blue Heron’s next phase of growth is in service to our broader community’s goal of connectivity. Inspired by our commitment “to create a personal experience with nature,” we are embarking upon a major project to expand the Preserve’s internal system of trails. Upon completion, this trail system — the Blueway Trail — will provide a contiguous link among all of our 30-acres of green space. The benefits will be enjoyed by all who visit, from neighborhood residents who enjoy strolling with their pets to children who attend our numerous camps to learn more about their natural world.
Inspired by the meandering creeks that traverse our green spaces, the Blueway Trail initiative is a long-term, phased project. Our goal is to complete the internal trail system, which includes bridges, boardwalks, crosswalks, interpretive signage and ADA facilities, by early 2018. Longer term, our vision for the Blueway Trail initiative extends to connecting with Chastain Park’s PATH to the west and PATH 400 to the east and the Atlanta Beltway beyond.
All phases of the Blueway Trail initiative will require significant financial resources. Currently, we are making plans for our first ever capital campaign to fund the internal phase and identifying partners to help us plan for eventual expansion to connect with the broader community.
